Announcing a New Community Worksite: Carr Hardware

The Vocational Department is excited to begin working as of Friday, 11/18/at Carr Hardware in Enfield, CT.  Duties initially will involve light maintenance but hopefully will expand to merchandise (stocking, facing).

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to all our voc students.  We hope you had a good break and are ready to get back to work!

The Work Center has a second Mini mover conveyor system which will allow more students access.

We will be saying "Good Bye" to The West Hartford Children's Museum at least for the time being after many years there.  Thanks to the staff there for providing our students the opportunity.

We will begin working at our latest new site, Burlington Coat Factory, Copaco Shopping Center, Bloomfield the week of September 5.  Students will be organizing merchandise in various departments.

We've heard from one of our graduates, Anna P, who has settled in to her new program, Opportunity Works CT.  Good news!

New Commuity Work Sites

Two new community work opportunities came on line this Spring:

The Walgreens Pharmacy at 674 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford has welcomed
us.  Assignments include facing product and stocking merchandise on shelves and in coolers.

Menchie's Frozen Yogurt on Kennedy Road in the Windsor Court Shopping Plaza
has welcomed us.   Our students clean tables and chairs and set up the outside seating.

Campus Work Center Pros!

Increased independence and initiative exciting to see!

He began working off grounds about a year ago.  He delivers shredding to InfoShred.  His job begins when he comes to the vocational building from the main building.  He then heads to the workroom and retrieves shredding from behind the closet double doors.  He usually grabs two bags at a time to bring to the van waiting at the bottom of the vocational building staircase.  He arranges the bags into the back of the van and shuts the door.  Once we arrive at InfoShred, he dumps the shredding into a large bin to be processed.  He is a hardworking team member who typically likes words of encouragement to complete his tasks.  Today, however, was different.  He came into the vocational building, went to the closet and took out 5 or 6 bags of shredding without any staff involvement!   This is a major accomplishment for him.  Way to go on your increased independence!
